Handmade by a small team of Amish craftsman in small, artisan grade batches, the ClimaCab is built with an exceptional attention to detail and craftsmanship. World renowned construction techniques are passed down through generations and the handmade quality is apparent in every facet of the ClimaCab. Every ClimaCab is constructed from either locally sourced domestic hardwoods or ethically harvested exotic species from around the world. In addition, certain wood species can be stained or painted with exceptional results, adding to the ability to customize and accentuate the natural beauty of the wood grain.

Our systems are capable of both adding or removing moisture depending on the circumstances, so your instruments will always be within the perfect range of 45-55% relative humidity.

Our patented technology provides an industry leading hermetically sealed environment for your instruments. By isolating the upper section of the ClimaCab, the volume of air requiring humidity control and damaging fluctuations are drastically reduced.

All ClimaCabs are handmade by a small team of Amish carpenters in an off-grid shop nestled on the ridge above the Mississippi River in western Wisconsin. The result is the finest made guitar humidors in the world.

Hardwood construction makes for an extremely durable and visually stunning cabinet. We use some of the best hardwoods available, all of which are ethically and sustainably harvested. We hand select the boards only using the best of the best.

Safety of your instruments is a top priority. Both our hanging or resting systems have many features which are designed with safety in mind and finding the right solution for your collection is easy and quick.

The door(s) of the lower section open to reveal a storage compartment and the hardwood box holding the humidifier and power supply. Measuring 13" H x 19 1/2" deep, the compartment can store accessories for the ClimaCab and playing music.

We source only the best components to cast light into the cabinet. Our lighting is fully dimmable from 1-100%, remote controlled, and housed in a brushed aluminum channel with a frosted diffuser lens.

Available in four finishes, the Greenwich Collection hardware has a sophisticated appearance with a linear, curved design. Additionally we can install customer provided hardware or use our concealed coved finger pull.

UV Blocking/Safety Glass

Overview

1/8" laminated UV Blocking/Safety Glass acts as a safety glass and also eliminates 99.9% of UV rays from entering the humidor. This is accomplished with a transparent interlayer, which is bonded between two 1/16" panels of glass. The PVB (Polyvinyl butyral) interlayer does not interfere with optical clarity while providing strength and binding the two panels of glass to one another. In the event that impact were to occur, it cracks instead of breaking into jagged pieces.

Many finishes used on instruments are prone to cracking and fading with excess UV ray exposure. In addition, certain woods, such as Adirondack Spruce, are prone to yellowing with excess UV ray exposure. impacting the finish on your instruments.

This glass option is highly recommended for safety for the instruments, wood surfaces of the humidor, and people interacting with the humidor.

Appearance

Door/Side Panel Type

The location where the panels are utilized is on the sides below the glass panels, on the doors accessing the lower section of the ClimaCab, and on the drawer fronts (if applicable).

We offer two types of panels - Raised or Mission..

A Raised Panel design is a more formal design, used predominantly in traditional style cabinetry. In a raised panel, the cabinet is made up of a center panel and an outer rim or overlay. The center panel is carved on the edges which yields a raised center. The edges slope backward to the edges with a variety of profiles based on the cutter heads used. The entire effect is to make the cabinet door look as though it was carved out of a single, large plank, and it’s often subtly decorative in style. In addition to the panel appearance, the framing around the panel and the glass has a profiled inner edge.

A Mission Panel is a simpler, contemporary design used predominantly in modern style cabinetry. It also has a center panel and a flat frame overlay around the edge. The mission panel features straight lines and there is no decorative carving or raising in either the panel or the overlay. The center panel itself is completely flat, like a slab cabinet door, and the overlay around the edge is very sleek and simplistic looking. It's definitely a "less is more" design that is timeless and fits well with many interior spaces.

Glass Door Fronts

Replace the standard wood panel with glass to showcase certain items stored in the lower section, such as books, amplifiers, and effects pedals. We have the option to install UV Blocking/Safety Glass as well as interior LED lighting. Pricing varies based on ClimaCab size and whether we integrate the glass and lighting.

Amplifier Pull Out Shelves

Overview

Our amplifier pull out shelves are durable and can be custom designed to fit a variety of common amplifiers. The hardware we use has a soft close feature, so when your done simply shove the shelf/amp backwards and it will return to the resting position smoothly.

Construction

  • Shelves are flat and constructed with a 1/2" cabinet grade plywood deck and perimeter hardwood edge. The hardwood edge provides rigidity, conceals plywood edge, and is 1/8" higher than the deck to create a lip which prevents amplifiers from slipping off.

Wood Type

  • Typically the shelves are made from the same wood type as the ClimaCab; however, we can make them from any wood. Additional costs may apply for exotic and domestic wood species.

Hardware

  • Blum undermount, full extension soft close slides
  • 75 pound weight limit

Size

  • Custom made to size, dependent on the width of the ClimaCab and the required width for the amplifier(s)
  • For larger size ClimaCabs, multiple amplifier pull out shelves can be installed

Amp / Lower Section Height Chart

In most situations, the standard 17" high lower section must be expanded to accommodate the height of the amplifier on the pull out shelf. The shelf plus the hardware consumes 2 1/2" at the floor of the lower section and the face framing consumes another 4". A safe rule of thumb when estimating height required is to measure the amplifier resting on the ground to the top of the handle in its highest position and add 8". This will give a clearance of approximately 1 1/2" from the top of the handle to the upper face frame and account for any inaccuracies when measuring.

The table below will assist in determining height requirements to store your amplifier in the lower section of the ClimaCab.

General Use Pull Out Shelves & Trays

Overview

Shelves vs Trays

  • Shelves are flat and with a 1/2" cabinet grade plywood deck. Deck is finished with a hardwood edge that is 1/8" higher than the deck to create a lip which prevents items from slipping off

  • Trays have a similar 1/2" cabinet grade plywood bottom and a hardwood border of various heights. The minimum is 2 1/2" and the maximum is typically around 6-7". All tray hardwood borders feature half-blind dovetailed construction and a small curved portion routed out of the front edge

  • Both are fully concealed behind the lower section doors

Hardware

  • Both shelves and trays utilize Blum under mount soft close slides, with full extension from the lower section

Size

  • Deck size depends on the width of the ClimaCab
  • For larger size ClimaCabs, multiple pull out shelves can be installed to fill the entire lower section

Pricing

  • Pull out shelf - $325; Pull out tray - $400

Fixed and Adjustable Shelving

Overview

Fixed shelving means that the shelf cannot be moved up or down. These shelves are partial width, meaning the shelf spans from the side of the humidifer box to the inside of the lower section. There are two options - either position a singular shelf on each side of the humidifier box, which yields an opening of approximately 7". If the shelf or shelves are desired lower than the humidifier box, we can run a pair of boards down from the bottom of the humidifier box to the floor. This allows for shelves anywhere within the entire lower section and also creates an addtional storage cubby below the humidifier box that is approximately 8 1/2" wide x 5" height.

Adjustable shelving is capable of being moved up/down by positioning metal shelf stays in pre-drilled holes. Since the main purpose is to give maximum adjustability and make these shelves more versatile, it is recommended to utilize the second option described above, which would allow for moving them up/down within the entire lower section. With that said, there are no hard rules and multiple configurations

Hardware & Supports

  • Fixed shelving typically utilizes hardwood shelf supports mounted to the outer wood pieces of the opening.

  • Adjustable shelving utilizes metal shelf stays, which are inserted into pre-drilled holes along the front and back edges of the outer wood pieces of the opening

Construction

  • All shelving is constructed from 3/4" cabinet grade plywood with a hardwood edge

Size and Quantity

  • Shelf size and quanitity depends on the width of the ClimaCab, plus other factors

Pricing

  • $175/fixed shelf

  • $225/adjustable shelf

Half-Blind Dovetail Drawers

Overview

Hardware

  • Blum undermount soft close slides, with full extension from the lower section

Low Profile

Overview

For a low profile lower section, there are two options listed below. We are currently developing the first ClimaCabs without a lower section and will add to the photography when those are completed

  • 10 1/2" Lower Section: We can utilize our low profile lower section to reduce the overall height. In situations where the humidification unit is used, the minimum height is 10 1/2". Compared to the standard lower section height of 17", this will reduce the overall height from 72 1/8" to 65 5/8".

  • No Lower Section: In situations where height restrictions exist, we can completely eliminate the lower section. This is most likely applicable for rooms with sloped ceilings. When we remove the lower section, there are two options for humidity control. First, we can create a hardwood box which would be placed in the center of the upper section on the floor. Second, the ClimaCab can be humidified by only using the Boveda Two Way Humidity packets.

DEHUMIDIFICATION

Overview

Active dehumidification may be required during seasonal variations in ambient humidity or in regions where high humidity persists year round. With the Acoustic Remedy Humidity Control System, switching between humidification and dehumidification systems is simple, requiring only a few minutes. Ongoing maintenance of the dehumidification system requires very little time to keep it operating ideally.

Dehumidification

In order to combat high humidity in ClimaCabs, there are two primary solutions. For slight dehumidification we would recommend utilizing the Boveda 49% High Absorption (HA) packets and removing all water from the reservoir. These packets are designed to target 49% and can absorb 3x more moisture than Boveda 49%. On average, they can absorb around 25 grams of water per packet and we recommend using 10 packets to increase the possible water absorption to 250 grams.

For more extreme situations we've created a creative and effective approach. By utilizing our dehumidification module with the Acoustic Remedy Humidity Control System, you can expect reducing interior humidity levels quickly by replacing the humidification reservoir with a dehumidification reservoir. Following a couple of simple changes to the controller, internal humidity levels come down from dangerous to safe levels almost immediately.

Overview

Woodwright's entire line of finishing products has been time tested in its durability, high build, beautiful luster, heat and humidity resistance and protection from harmful elements that can mar the appearance of your ClimaCab over time.

Some wood species stain quite well, including most common domestic species, while others are not recommended for staining. In terms of painting, woods such as Northern White Ash and Oak tend to have prominent grain patterns which will show through the paint. On the other hand, Maple will paint perfectly smooth with no grain showing through.

All stains and paints are finishd with a triple coat of catalyzed lacquer, applied with perfection.

Click the link below to visit the stain browser, which allows you to filter common wood species with the custom stain colors. We offer 6 x 10" samples to aid in your decision.

Accent Woods

Secondary Wood Species

Overview

We often accent the primary wood species/stain with a secondary wood species/stain. This accenting is done with individual component pieces and provides both contrast and complement to one another. This aesthetic property is commonly found in instruments, with an example being a spruce top combined with rosewood sides and back.

Within the ClimaCab, there are a few shared locations where we can integrate the accent woods regardless of the storage and display option utilized. In addition, there storage and display option specific accent locations. Please navigate to those appropriate sections below to learn more.

One of the most popular combination is a stained primary wood species with a natural (aka unstained) variation of the same wood species as the accents. An example would be Flame Maple with Boston Stain accented with natural Flame Maple. This yields a nice two tone look of the darker primary wood species/stain with the lighter colored accents. Any wood species from our expansive wood catalog is available as an accent. Please inquire for availability and pricing on these wood species.

Shared Locations

Shared locations consist of individual component pieces that are required regardless of the storage and display option utilized. There are some

  • Wire Channel: conceals the wires leading from the smart controller to the humidifier located below the floor of the upper section

  • Vent Plate: we construct two types of vent plates depending on whether the AR Humidity Control System is in the standard location or ducted. Both plates are the same with the exception of how the humidity controlled air enters the upper section.

    • Standard: the AR Humidity Control System is located in a hardwood box below the floor of the upper section. A handmade, slotted plate allows for the humidity controlled air to enter the upper section where the instruments are stored. Accessing the reservoir and the power strip is accomplished by simply lifting the plate

    • Ducted: the AR Humidity Control System is located on the floor of the lower section and we duct the air to the underside of a handmade, round hole plate that allows for the humidity controlled air to enter the upper section where the instruments are stored. This plate is held in place by wood turnbuckles to prevent the duct work from pushing the plate off the floor of the upper section and is typically never removed once installed

  • Back: only applicable to cabinet grade plywood cabinet species, such as Cherry, Walnut, Northern White Ash, and Maple. Nearly every exotic wood species and certain domestic species where cabinet grade plywood is not available either requires slat wall or tongue/groove back because of the need to use hardwood in these situations.

  • 1/4 Round: located where the back and sides of the upper section meet

Storage & Display Option Specific Locations

Hardwood Hanger Blocks:  String Swing hangers are attached to hardwood hanger blocks

Slat Wall: individual pieces of hardwood attached to the back of the ClimaCab

Tongue/Groove Back: described in more detail below

Neck Rests: wedge shaped rest that cradles the upper portion of the instrument

Bout Rails: 2 1/2" tall hardwood with 15 degree angle on cork lined face which cradles the lower bout of the instruments

Tracks: 1" x 1" hardwood tracks are permanently affixed to the floor on which the bout rails can move in/out within the ClimaCab

Tongue/Groove Back

The back of the.ClimaCab is often a location where a secondary wood species are brought into the ClimaCab. In fact, due to the size of this part, it has the most profound effect on the overall appearance with the obvious exception being the primary wood species of the ClimaCab.

The Tongue and Groove back is comprised of 4" wide pieces of wood with a tongue on one edge and a groove on the other edge. As these pieces are assembled together, they create a paneled appearance and make for an exceptionally strong back. We mount the individual pieces onto Baltic Birch back with screws from the back of the ClimaCab.

We must install a Tongue and Groove back in ClimaCabs that utilize a wood species which does not have cabinet grade plywood available. A few examples of this would be Flame Maple, African Mahogany, and most exotic species. In some instances, this look could be desired regardless of the availability of plywood. A few examples are Cherry, Walnut, or Northern White Ash.

Hardware

Coved Finger Pulls

The coved finger pull is a routed out section of the backside of the door frame and is the default option for the ClimaCab Petite and Micro because those cabinet sizes utilize a single door frame unless cabinet pulls are elected for.

For the ClimaCab Petite+ and larger, we use two doors and when we utilize our coved finger pull option in this application, we must route out the top of the door frames in the lower and upper section. This option may be desirable for those who do not want external cabinet pulls and want a more sleek, streamlined appearance.

Custom Pulls

We can install custom hardware for a $50 fee per ClimaCab. We can provide some recommendations of proper size, but in general the lower section pulls should be approximately 2/3 the size of the upper section pulls, which are recommended to be around 8-9" long. We do not recommend putting knobs on the upper section; however, they can work appropriately on the lower section doors.

In order to keep this process simplfiied, we request that our customers order the hardware and ship to us. We will coordinate with the build team to ensure they are utilized and installed in the proper locations.

Inlays

We've partnered with Aulson Inlay to provide a wide array of inlay options. They are experts in their field and have worked with many prominent luthiers. The possible inlay materials range greatly, but typically consist of wood, shell, stone, coral, and other natural materials.

With the ability to work one-on-one with the in-house designer or to provide your own designs, the options are virtually unlimited. The process involves consultation with Aulson, a selection of inlay materials, a review and approval of pre-production renderings, and several test cuts prior to inlaying any actual components of the ClimaCab.

Pricing is based on several factors and is quoted after the project details have been fully identified.
