CLIMACAB INSTRUMENT CAPACITY

ClimaCabs can store differing numbers of instruments based on the type of instrument, the display option chosen, and the angle of display. We have extensive experience being able to estimate how many guitars will fit into a ClimaCab, given we are provided some key information.

In general, acoustic guitars measure approximately 4-5" body depth and electric guitars range in the 2 - 2 1/2" range. Various other instruments, such as bass guitars, banjos, and similar tend to be closer to the electric guitar body depth, while archtop guitars might be slightly deeper than their acoustic counterparts.

Length is a non-issue as our ClimaCabs are intended to store instruments up to long scale bass guitars, which are approximately 45-46" in length, with ease regardless of the display option chosen. Width is also seldomly a problem as everything up to Super Jumbo sized guitars, with body widths of approximately 17", fit comfortably.

Smaller instruments such as violins, mandolins, and ukuleles can be stored comfortably hanging from the slat wall or top rail hangers, as well as from the neck rests. When storing larger instruments, such as a cello, dedicated space will be required and thereby reduce the quantity of instruments accordingly.

The display option chosen will have an effect on the amount of instruments capable of being stored in the ClimaCab. In general, the Neck & Bout Rest display option can store approximately one more instrument than the hanging options. Due to the depth of the ClimaCab, the ProHang display option can store an acoustic guitar size instrument from the top rail at a 45 degree angle and an electric guitar size instrument from the slat wall. It is not capable of storing an acoustic at a 45 degree angle and another acoustic on the slat wall. A popular way to utilize the ProHang display option is to create two layers of instruments by facing the instrument from the top rail forward and then hanging another behind it from the slat wall.

We invite you to learn more about the various display options we offer and learn more about which is correct for your collection.

Please note - some older style ClimaCabs are shown in the gallery. All ClimaCabs now have no center bar on two-door cabinets, the Acoustic Remedy Humidity Control system, and the top which overhangs 7/8" per side.

The width of the ClimaCab has a profound effect on the number of instruments it can store. Our widest ClimaCab is the Grand+ size, which measures 72" wide. For each ClimaCab width, subtract 1 1/2" for the interior dimensions. The chart at the bottom of the page, showing the quantity of hangers per ClimaCab, was derived based on using approximately 6-7" per instrument.

We also offer the ability to link two ClimaCabs together using our Connect system. This solution is suitable to fill larger spaces and provide more storage. Each ClimaCab is able to be used independently if they need to be disconnected from one another and utilized in separate locations.

The display angle that yields the most storage is sideways, regardless of the display option utilized. All display options are capable of sideways display angles and the angle can be changed at a moment's notice with our fully configurable systems. Positioning the instruments sideways yields the most storage regardless of the instrument type.

Changing the angle of display with the Top Rail display option involves removing the instrument from the hanger and turning the thumb screw behind the yoke counterclockwise. once the yoke is loosened, spin the yoke to the desired angle and retighten the thumb screw.

For the ProHang, we provide 2" straight arm hangers; however, there are multi-angle options available in a variety of lengths. The slat wall hangers are typically used to store a layer of instruments on the back wall facing forwards.

For the Neck & Bout Rest display option, the lower bouts can be moved in/out of the ClimaCab. By moving the bout rails are closer together, the option for angled display becomes more possible. Our innovative use of neodymium magnets allows for maximum versatility, by making the bout rails and the neck rests movable. The bout rails move in/out of the ClimaCab on tracks, providing a solid foundation for the lower bout of the instrument. Our cross supports span the gap between the bout rails and are used in pairs. They magnetically attract to a metal bar routed into wood surface of the bout rail (underneath the cork surface). When used in pairs, front facing an instrument across the entire cabinet is simple and quick.

Number of Hangers or Rests Provided

The number of hangers provided is based on our experience with each size ClimaCab storing/displaying a mixture of acoustic and electric guitars. Instrument Capacity

Important information regarding the ranges shown in the table below:

  • It assumes the Top Rail display option is utilized. If the Neck & Bout Rest display option is utilized, figure one more instrument per ClimaCab size in the sideways orientation.
  • If the ProHang display option is utilized, instruments can only be stored on the slat wall with some angle on the instruments in the top rail. In addition, thinner instruments such as electric guitars on the slat wall and larger bodied instruments such as acoustics on the top rail. There is not enough depth to store acoustics on the top rail and the slat wall.
  • The low end of range would be if the entire collection of instruments is acoustic guitar body depth and the high end of the range if the entire collection was electric guitar body depth
